Lasiurus borealis is widespread in eastern North America, including northeastern Mexico and the Bahamas. This species inhabits forests and woodlands, where it roosts in trees, but it forages in a variety of habitats, including forest edges, over pastures and other open spaces. It feeds on moths, beetles, and other insects. Although some Eastern Red Bats hibernate in the northern parts of their range, most migrate to warmer regions.
